Four doctoral students at recently participated in an intensive programme of workshops and seminars on qualitative research methods at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg (UG) in Sweden.

Human rights violations are a fundamental driver of the HIV vulnerability and risk for key populations (sex workers, men who have sex with men, people who use drugs, transgender people). Dr Bereket Yakob Yota, a recent graduate of HEARD’s PhD Programme at UKZN has been appointed as a visiting scientist at the prestigious Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health. Dr Yota who graduated with a PhD at the University of KwaZulu Natal in 2016, has been selected to contribute to the Department of Population and Global Health with focus on Health Systems at the elite Harvard T.H Chan School of Public health.

Intimate partner violence during pregnancy is associated with maternal mortality, adverse pregnancy outcomes and childhood growth impairment. Its effects may be exacerbated in resource-limited settings. Nevertheless, it has not been thoroughly investigated.
