Overview:
Experiences of gender-based violence in South Africa are widespread. Rural areas have particular challenges with poor access to services and challenging gender relationships. This project shows understanding of the nature of gender-based violence (GBV) in these communities as well as implementing a small-scale evaluation of a combined community mobilisation and health systems strengthening project to reduce GBV.
Objectives:
- Evaluate the impact of a combined community mobilisation and health systems strengthening project on the incidence of GBV in a rural community;
- Understand the contribution of different components to the outcomes
Methodological approach:
The study uses a small-scale RCT to evaluate the intervention, with integrated qualitative research.
