Association of HIV intervention uptake With HIV prevalence in adolescent girls and young women in South Africa
In this cross-sectional study of 18 296 individuals in 10 642 households in 2 provinces in South Africa, adolescent girls and young women who accessed 3 or more multiple or layered interventions (such as the DREAMS [Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe]-like program) were significantly more likely to have undergone HIV testing and more likely to have used condoms consistently in the previous 12 months compared with those who did not attend such interventions. The findings of this study suggest the need for further study of the beneficial aspects of layering HIV interventions to support the sexual and reproductive health of adolescent girls and young women.
