Seminar: Researching and working with gender, sexuality and young people
HEARD invites you to a seminar by Professor Deevia Bhana, the DST/NRF South African Research Chair in Gender and Childhood Sexuality and a Professor in the School of Education, University of KwaZulu-Natal. This is the first of a series of seminars on Public Health and Social Policy for 2019.
About the speaker: Professor Deevia Bhana’s research lies in the areas of gender, sexuality, children, young people and schooling. This research is informed by a cross-cutting approach, drawing from the sociology of childhood, political economy, critical feminist and sexuality studies, and masculinities. She enjoys considerable international recognition in the field with two fellowships at Columbia University (US) and most recently an academic writing scholar funded by the Rockerfeller Foundation (Italy). Her most recent book is Childhood Sexuality and AIDS Education: The price of innocence (New York: Routledge).
