Workshops and Training
HEARD is a renowned research and training centre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban. HEARD has operated for 12 years focusing both regionally, in east and southern Africa, and globally on generating knowledge and evidence to build research capacity on health issues in general, and more specifically, on HIV and AIDS. As a centre of excellence, HEARD’s research findings have been translated into substantial contributions to knowledge and action at national, regional and global levels. More recently, HEARD has responded to emerging needs by extending its activities into research capacity-building in Africa and leadership support.
Building Research Capacity in Africa
Building research capacity is aimed at achieving excellent quality in research and enhancing researcher skills in order to deepen the pool of HIV and AIDS relevant research expertise in southern Africa. A major focus of the African Leadership Programme (ALP) capacity building strategy is the training of researchers that contributes to the expertise and experience on HIV and AIDS related issues in the region. HEARD will host a series of skills enhancing workshops that provide support to researchers, health care practitioners, policy makers and leaders in the east and southern African region.
Workshops topics include:
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Systematic Review Training
- Real Ethics for social scientists and biomedical researchers
- HIV Prevention and Interventions, Research methods, and Project Planning on Disability Issues
Workshops will be conducted by key experts in the field and will equip participants with knowledge and practical skills that promote evidenced-based research and knowledge management strategies. The dynamic format of the workshops will provide intensive training and allow opportunities for learning through individual and group based activities. For more information, contact
