Vukuzakhe Research Project
The Vukuzakhe research initiative aims at evaluating the Vukuzakhe outreach projects which focus on mitigating the impact and spread of HIV/AIDS through education, health care and personal empowerment in the Himeville/Underberg area in Sisonke district, KwaZulu-Natal. The study investigates the local community response to the HIV/Aids pandemic, with particular reference to the Vukuzakhe project. The research project adopts an integrated approach, employing ethnographic and quantitative methods, with a strong focus on advocacy, capacity building, and planning and management of the epidemic at the local level. It is expected that the findings of the study would not only provide a better theoretical and practical understanding of community and local NGO's and CBO's response HIV & Aids but also influence local policy in managing the pandemic.
