Suraya began working at HEARD in 2005. She is a Researcher. Suraya obtained her Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) (including Honors) in 2001, majoring in Psychology and Industrial Psychology as well as obtaining her Masters Degree in populations studies from UKZN.

In 2007 she was involved in: "Impact of HIV/AIDS on Health Systems" involving South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia, "Costing and Benefits of Comprehensive Care", Review work for Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), Attended Country Team meetings for Health Systems Project in Zambia and Tanzania, Involved in proposal development for evaluating a school-based programme, Poster presentation at the South African AIDS conference held in Durban, South Africa, Poster presentation at the AIDS Impact conference held in Marseille, France, Represented HEARD at the Safety 2007 conference held in Tehran, Iran and met with potential collaborators for new projects, Represented HEARD at various fora presenting HEARD work, Involved in various in-house meetings around Research Direction Setting, Mentorship etc. Taught at the "Planning for HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa Workshop" Reviewed an article with Dr Stephanie Nixon for the American Journal of Public Health, Attended Presentation Skills workshop, Attended Professional Work Ethics Training and Attended Access training.
In 2006 she was involved in: one of HEARD's flagship projects called "Impact of HIV/AIDS on Health Systems" involving South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia, Proposal for "Costing of Comprehensive Care", Attended Country Team meetings for Health Systems Project in Zambia and Tanzania, Attended and oral presentation at the Public Health Association of South Africa's conference, Oral presentation at Mpumalanga Department of Health Conference, Presentation at KZN Department of Health workshop, Represented HEARD at Population Council Workshop in Durban, South Africa, Attended "Planning for HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa Workshop", Attended "Monitoring and Evaluation Workshop" Attended Stata training, Attended Time Management Course.
In 2005 she was involved in: Compiled a Policy Brief for research done on Faith Based Organizations and HIV/AIDS in Uganda and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Worked with colleagues on a literature review and compilation of draft report for "The Impact of HIV/AIDS on the South African Health System", Participated in the Health Systems Researcher workshop - 05-06 December 2005. Poster preparation for the "International Union for the Scientific Study of Populations (IUSSP)" Seminar on Interaction between Poverty and HIV/AIDS 12-14 December 2005, Cape Town. |
