Dr. Jill Hanass-Hancock completed her dissertation (PHD) in the field of HIV/AIDS and disability in South Africa with the Department of Rehabilitation at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. Thereafter she joined the Health Economics and HIV/AIDS Research Division (HEARD) in Durban as a Post-Doc Fellow, where she was involved in the evaluation of HIV prevention interventions. She currently works at HEARD at the project-coordinator for the disability and HIV project. Dr. Hanass-Hancock’s work experience ranges from the practical side of education and educational psychology to the academic field of research and policy development. She has developed expertise in the field of sex education, issues of vulnerable children and orphans, mainstreaming and inclusion of children with special needs, gender relations, abuse and sexual harassment as well as the socio-cultural aspects of HIV/AIDS. In her current position at HEARD she leads an international network of experts on HIV/AIDS and disability, developed a disability and HIV resource centre and drives the research efforts on the topic within HEARD.
