 Multi-media | Economics Reference Group - Seventh Meeting
The ERG's seventh meeting was convened in Washington DC on the 29 and 30th of September 2010. The discussions focused on the linkage between "Social Protection, Social Health Insurance and HIV".
Attendants included academics from various sub-disciplines as well as representatives from UNAIDS, World Bank, UNICEF, WFP and WHO among others. In the first part of the meeting dedicated to the issue of social protection, participants highlighted that the wide range of interventions and concepts encompassed under the social protection umbrella needed to be narrowed in scope. Background papers were then presented and results of key studies on conditional cash transfers and safety net assessments were discussed. In the second session relating to social health insurance, meeting participants explored the interrelation between health insurance mechanisms and HIV services and identified a number of key gaps in the current economic knowledge base
