All three of these projects investigate or interrogate responses to the epidemic. iThembalethu looks at a vulnerable population (children) but is concerned with evaluating an existing response to the epidemic. iThembalethu- a control group based evaluation of an HIV prevention intervention implemented in several local schools by a faith based organisation. This project answers question 2, effective responses. Health systems- is investigating the impact of the epidemic on the management of health systems- particularly on ART and MCH programmes and AIDS and the state- an ongoing project that is critically examining the responses of African states to the epidemic. |
Michael joined HEARD in 2008 as a Research Fellow. He previously worked as a Pre-Doctorate Research Fellow at the School of Development Studies- UKZN. He also co-wrote a training manual for a local project as well as contributing to various reports, manuals and articles. Michael is involved in the following projects at HEARD; iThembalethu, Health Systems and AIDS and the State.
