This is a collaborative study between HEARD and The Centre for AIDS Development, Research and Evaluation (CADRE).
Its overall objectives are:
- To determine the prevalence and distribution of HIV/AIDS in four business sectors in KwaZulu-Natal;
- To conduct KAP (Knowledge, Attitude and Practice) surveys in companies within these sectors linked to HIV results;
- To investigate the relationship between HIV infection and selected demographic and KAP variables;
to produce a report to the Department of Health and the Durban Chamber Foundation (DCF) on the results and to make recommendations for interventions and ongoing monitoring and evaluation;
- To provide HIV Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) services for employees wishing to know their status;
To establish the economic impact of HIV and AIDS for the four sectors at provincial level and implications for the province.
Project updates

The following studies were completed late
in 2007:
- A
sectoral impact assessment of HIV/AIDS in four identified economic sectors in
relation to the province;
- A
review of market conditions of the four identified economic sectors;
- A
review of selected municipal economies with regard to performance, growth, and
policies and strategies related to HIV/AIDS;
- A collaborative planning assessment with
relevant stakeholders, including provincial public sector treatment capacity;
review of impact assessment findings in sectors; and review with provincial
government and municipalities.
The final report comprises a strategic
assessment of the economic impact of HIV/AIDS in the four industrial sectors at
provincial level and projected public health service needs. |
