HEARD to Host Health Financing Workshop

In August, HEARD will host an Introduction to Health Financing, Costing and Budgeting Workshop. In the course of HEARD's work, it has found financing of HIV and health responses a critical component of a country's response to the AIDS epidemic, particularly in the context of the current economic climate.

The workshop aims to provide an introduction to health financing issues, basic costing and budgeting skills. The purpose is to build capacity within government ministries, National AIDS Councils (NACs) and regional NGOs in costing and budgeting. The targeted audience includes SADC structures, SADC Parliamentary Forum, parliamentarians, NACs and regional NGOs.

The workshop will be facilitated by the Centre for Economic Governance and AIDS in Africa (CEGAA). Since its inception, CEGAA has trained hundreds of civil society representatives, government officials and researchers/consultants in various aspects relating to health financing and budget monitoring. At the same time, CEGAA has extensive experience in undertaking research in health and HIV/AIDS financing, such as costing, budgeting, expenditure management and tracking, financial systems improvement, and thus these experiences add value to its training programmes.

The six day workshop will take place in Durban from 16 to 22 August 2010. The workshop is limited to 20 delegates and registration closes on 30 June. Click here for full workshop details, to access the workshop registration form click here.
