In 2006, HEARD secured core funding for five years from a consortium of international agencies, DFID, SIDA and UNAIDS. The agencies created an innovative arrangement and it has become a model used by them elsewhere in Africa. Core funding has enabled HEARD to shift from a project- to a programme-based research agenda, the latter being essential to HEARD's mission.
